Shazaam! 2010 In YEAR 4 the program underwent significant changes that saw more emphasis on interactive group work and exercises to foster group story and character development with playwright Thomas Morgan Jones. When discussing the metaphor of heroism students were able to transfer human qualities into their character’s values (along with super powers). Friendship, loyalty, accepting others differences and working together to overcome obstacles were the ideals represented when the classes created their collective story: “Journey to Mars” (Mr. Lazenka’s class) and “Daisy’s Life of Love; And the Sock Monkey’s New Friend” (Mr. Romeo’s class). Each student interpreted a piece of their collective story with the assistance of artist Sara Downing.
Working with artists, Sara Downing and Kasia Ulbin alongside teacher Mark Koczij, the students incorporated techniques from both Illustrator and Photoshop to create their designs. Three top designs were selected from a blind juried panel including Pam McFayden, Art Department, LCI, Toby Fletcher, Associate Dean, Humber College, Media Studies, Denise Dickin, Coordinator, The Assembly Hall and our Youth Coordinator, Melissa McGrath. All students should be commended on their fine work on this very challenging topic. Which one is your favourite? |
