Volunteers contribute much more than time – they also offer legitimacy, credibility and profile; in return, they gain valuable skills and experience, a sense of ownership in their community and increased sense of pride and self-esteem.

Volunteers are what helps to make Lakeshore Arts grow; without your support to assist with administrative duties, hanging exhibitions, coordinating events and being the smiling face of our organization we would not be who we are.

Volunteer Appreciation Soiree 2007

A great big thank you to all of our volunteers. Without you Lakeshore Arts could not deliver as many exciting and educational programs to the community that it does. We value and appreciate all the time that you give to us and to your community. Kudos and Bouquets!

This year we honoured the following volunteers on November 27th at the Assembly Hall. Over 55 people attended the event where they were entertained by Humber College’s Comedy Sketch troupes mentored by Robin Duke of Second City fame and by aboriginal drummer and storyteller, Scott Debassige.

Impact Award
Presented to David Poborsa, community member and the landlord of 2422 Lakeshore who took a giant leap of faith to support community arts in this neighbourhood by helping us fulfill a long time goal of residing in a storefront facility. David was unable to attend.

Brass in the Grass Volunteer Extraordinaire Award
This year Wendy Goodine, Volunteer Chair of the Festival presented to two recipients.

Charlotte spent many tireless hours and energy at both our annual Gala fundraiser and the 2007 festival. Her pleasant disposition, people skills and hard work made her an easy choice for this award.

Dave jumped in with enthusiasm and tireless energy to make this year’s festival a huge success. Dave was on-site both days and worked over 20 hours.

Champion of the Arts Award
Presented to Irene Jones by Vice President, Jerry Smith.

Irene has been a strong supporter and friend of Lakeshore Arts for well over 12 years. While she held the role of Councillor of Ward 6, she supported many Lakeshore Arts initiatives including the restoration and reopening of the Assembly Hall as a cultural centre and provided great assistance in advocating for sustainable funding for community arts organizations at City Hall. She truly is one of our champions.

Youth Recognition Award
Presented to Ryan Chopik, YAM member.

Ryan received this award for his exceptional commitment to the youth music component for Brass in the Grass. With short notice you rolled up your sleeves, jumped right in and helped make the youth component of the festival a success. Unfortunately, Ryan was unable to attend.

This year saw the creation of a new award by our president, Georgia Kuich. Georgia recognized Norma Grittani, long standing Lakeshore Arts member and volunteer for her unfaltering support and commitment to our organization.
